Heat shrink is type of plastic tubing that shrinks in size when exposed to heat.
This particular heat shrink is made of PVC tubing. a strong and durable plastic. PVC has a one of the lowest shrink temperatures of all the heat shrinking plastic tubing. So you should select this tubing if you need to protect components that will be damaged when exposed to high heat
PVC TUBING
Good electrical insulation 20% longitudinal shrinkage Ripple free shrinkage Resists chemicals oils, sunlight, moisture and fungus Temperature Rating: continuous operation from -20°C to 105°C. NB: Storage: extremely heat sensitive; store at 70°F or below, or use in 30 days.
What is it used for?
Heat shrink tubing has a multitude of applications and is therefore a versatile and useful item. It’s therefore advisable to keep some stored away in stock for use whenever you need it. The most common uses are described below.
What is the Shrink ratio?
This ratio describes the diameter size of the unshrunk tubing in comparison to the diameter size of the shrunk tube. For example a ratio of 2:1 means that the unshrunk diameter is twice the size of the shrunk diameter. In other words, once shrunk the tube will be 1/2 of its original size.

- Electrical insulation - The tubing will cover and shield a multiplicity of items including joints or worn cables and wires. It will further insulate cables and cords against the elements that wear cables. It can be used on aircraft, boats, home appliances, mechanical tools.
- Strain relief - The tubing can add an extra layer of strength and support for cables & wires at points of strain e.g. drops, splits, connections. Because of its strength once shrunk heat shrink can be used to bind multiple wires together, neatly terminate end of sleeves and tidy up the overall look of cables.
- Environmental and mechanical protection - The material the tubing is made from is often heat, dust, and chemical resistant, able to withstand moisture and protective against cuts and abrasions.
- Identification - The tubing often comes if varied colored options which offers a great opportunity to color code cables and components. Some tubing can also be printed on for cable labeling
