3 Ways You and Your Business Can Honor Memorial Day

Memorial Day is a great time to reflect on the sacrifice and service provided by the fallen soldiers of the United States military.  It is a day for remembering and honoring those who sacrificed their lives in battle and are no longer among us. With Memorial Day approaching, now is the perfect time to give back to those who stand up for the freedoms we enjoy each day. Many businesses recognize Memorial Day day and want to do everything they can to recognize our troops.  Read on to learn some ways that you and your business can honor the military.

Tell Their Story

Memorial Day dates back to the Civil War, in which an unimaginable 620,000 soldiers were killed. The holiday used to be called Decoration Day because many people would spend the day placing decorations and flags on the graves of fallen soldiers. The name was changed in 1971, perhaps because some fallen soldiers could not be brought home and have no graves to decorate.  Every community is home to many military heroes.  You can go online to read more about Memorial day and to understand the history.  You can also reach out to veterans and the families of fallen soldiers and ask them to share their stories in honor of their experiences and the experiences of their loved ones.

Special Offers for Troops

Memorial Day weekend sales can be found all over the web.  They draw a lot of traffic and consumers so look out for these great deals. While these sales are great for business, you may want to consider offering discounts specifically for those with a military ID and give them a positive message for the brothers and sisters that they have lost and the service they continue to provide.

Collect Donations

While many troops were lost to in and out of battle, we also have many that are still serving today. One of the best ways to honor our military is to make sure that they have plenty of supplies to help them with their service.  Let your customers, friends, and family know that you are collecting items and ask them to do the same.  Donating useful things such as non-perishable foods, snacks, toiletries, books, socks, insect repellent, and card games are some items on their most requested list.  You may also pick an organization to donate to, such as Veterans Helping Veterans Now, Armed Forces Family Survivors Fund, and Homes For Our Troops.

Take some time and celebrate Memorial Day in any way you can think of.  Enjoy a BBQ, go to the pool, or watch one of the fantastic games scheduled for this weekend. Whether you are an NBA fan or an NHL fan, there are plenty of games to chose from.  You can watch the Cleveland vs. Boston game, Golden State vs. Houston game, or our personal favorite the Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Golden Knights vs. Capitals game. GO KNIGHTS GO!!

Our office will be closed Monday, May 28th in observance of Memorial Day. Should you need urgent assistance, please feel free to reach out to your sales representative directly or email us.  As always, we will do everything in our power to assist you as soon as possible.
