General Cable, a Fortune 500 company that has existed since 1927. It is one of the biggest producers of wire and cable in the world. Headquartered in Highland Heights, Kentucky, it has sales centres and manufacturing facilities in a number of countries. It specializes in the manufacture and distribution optical fibre cables, copper and aluminium for industrial, communications and construction markets. It manufactures power cables that include low, medium and high voltage power distribution, as well as power transmission products. General Cable’s specialty cables are used in traditional and renewable power generation.
How General Cable Began
Originally incorporated in 1927 in New Jersey, General Cable merged the plant facilities and the manufacturing experience of a couple of older companies that were incorporated in the 1800s. These include Standard Underground Cable; a company that was established by renowned entrepreneur and electrical industry pioneer George Westinghouse.
